We Love 3rd Grade!

Leading and Learning in Room 14

New Website!

Well, I have decided that after spending so much time finding work-arounds for tasks that should be easy (and supported) on this website, to move over to my own domain.  Our new class website is located at www.mrshodgesclass.com (it’s even easy to remember!).  I am still using WordPress, but since I am not using wordpress.com to host my new site, I have far more freedom and control over it (such as having capital letters in my title and menus).  I will be posting future updates to the new site.  Please take some time to look it over and share feedback with me.  If you notice something doesn’t look right or isn’t loading correctly, please let me know.  This is a new adventure for me!  Also, please remember to update your bookmarks and subscribe to the new site (the button is now on the left hand side of the page).

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Trackways Field Trip

What an amazing day!  I don’t think we could have asked for better weather to go on our fossil-hunting hike!  The temperature started out in the low 50s and never rose above the 60s (what a change from the 90+ degree weather we have been having lately).  Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to all the parents who joined us this morning.  With 100+ 3rd graders out there, we were so thankful for the extra sets of eyes!  =)  Below you will find a video slide show I have made of the photos I took today.  (Apologies to any students who may have been looking for it earlier today.  WordPress.com does not allow Flash files to be embedded on their website, so I have been trying to find a work-around.  YouTube was the best I could find!  I do have it unlisted, so the link is needed outside of this post.)

Have a fantastic weekend!

Look What We Are Learning!

This has been an intense week!  It is only Wednesday and we have learned SO MUCH!  The following pictures are some of the anchor charts we have used this week, as well as a snapshot of our vocabulary wall.  We used American Sign Language for our vocabulary TPR (total physical response) this week.  Ask your child if he/she remembers the signs for our vocabulary words!

McKinney Briske from the BLM also visited our classroom today to talk to us about the Prehistoric Trackways National Monument to get us ready for our field trip on Friday.  She brought fossils and tracks for us to examine and reminded us to wear long pants and sunscreen, and to bring water with us to drink.

For those parents who are planning on joining us for the field trip, I have attached a poster with directions to the Trackways below (click on the thumbnail to be taken to the larger file).
